Olive & June Nail Polish | Reviewed
I did it. I bought into the targeted ads. Olive & June has been the nail polish darling all over Instagram for a while now, and now my very own set is finally here. I spent months and months using exclusively press-on nails, but I stopped that after guidelines from the Mayo Clinic said that they can harbor viruses and bacteria for longer than natural nails, so I said goodbye. After a few weeks of break, I was ready to start painting my nails again, especially as I head back to work.
The Experience
I ordered the “Everything Box”. I got to pick my own six shades of nail polish, a topcoat, and then many tools! Cuticle serum, a small cleanup brush, clippers, a nail polish remover pot, a nail file, and a nail buffer bar. Their unique selling item is a silicone handle called the Poppy that sits on top of the nail polish lid to make painting nails, especially with your non-dominant hand easy and quick. You can also purchase the items separately, including many other colors of nail polish.
The Good
I love the Poppy. I didn’t know if it was worth even thinking of, but it works wonderfully. I’ve never had an easier time painting my right hand and the nail polish goes on smoothly every time I use it. It’s one tool that I’m so happy to have tried. The buffer is also fantastic. It has the perfect grit and is rougher than many I’ve bought. It’s the only one I’ve used that takes the flakies right off when my nails get peeling. Overall, something I’ll keep reaching for. The acetone-free nail polish is also shockingly good. I hadn't ever found one that I liked, but this one takes the nail polish off my whole nail pretty much immediately. I am so impressed. After just a few weeks, my nails are already in better shape than they have been in literal years. I also have had really good manicures all the time now. It has been a huge change for the better from what I usually have.
The Bad
Okay “The Bad” is a little dramatic. Nothing was truly bad, it just wasn’t great. To start with, the nail polish isn’t extremely long-lasting. It’s nothing special as far as I can tell. It’s of average price and average quality. I also don’t love that the nail polishes all have initials as names. Yeah, it seems cool that they’re named after influential ladies, but it would be nice to have a clue what the colors are without trying to guess what shade “JG” is supposed to be. So, that’s kind of my biggest criticism. The nail polishes are pretty average, but the “system” as a whole, is worth it in my opinion.
Final Thoughts
The kit that I have retails for $80. For six nail polishes and all of the tools, I think that it ends up being worth it. It’s also especially convenient now that some things are available at Target, so I could pick up some new shades fairly easily.
