June Boxycharm Unboxing and Review!
At long last: my June
Boxycharm.
I love Boxycharm. You
guys know I love them. But man. Changing my address with them has been nigh
impossible. I finally managed to get a hold of this last month’s box.
Special thanks to my mom for sending this along. :)
Again, this box has a
theme. This time it’s Girls Just Wanna Have Sun. I love the idea. It’s hot
here. I’m outside all the time. But the theme is just…not there. None of these
items are really sun-themed. They’re great, don’t get me wrong. But they aren’t
sunny.
In this box:
Cougar Beauty Mineral
Face & Body Shimmer | $16
This Mineral Face
& Body Shimmer is formulated using feather-like shimmering minerals, adding
a radiant sparkle when lightly brushed anywhere on the body. Great for adding a
little sparkle to any look!
Well. I feel too young
to be a cougar. The boyfriend is also older, not younger, than me. The whole
concept of “cougar beauty” is kind of icky, so from the first impression, I was
turned off. Second, this is a loose powder, so it’s messy and hard to manage
anyway. I know, some people love loose powders, but I don’t. I use them rarely,
if ever. I’m not a fan of this. Swatching on the back of my hand, it’s a weird
dichotomy of chunky glitter…but also finely milled. It blends so well, but
still looks so chunky. It’s also a very yellow gold. Also not my jam. My skin
is a little on the sallow side, so I don’t’ want to emphasize that. I might
hold on to it to see if it’s better used as a body shimmer, but to be fair, I
don’t often think I need to highlight my body. So maybe this is a total miss. Based
on this, I probably would not check out this brand.
Farmacy Coconut Gel
Mask Medley (3 pack) | $24
This coconut gel mask
provides intensive hydration and restores the skin’s natural balance helping
even skin tone and improve overall clarity.
Farmacy and I have
actually been working together on some collaborations that are coming up, so it
was nice to see them popping up in a beauty box too. I love their natural
approach to beauty. All of their products are based on Korean beauty concepts
which are so popular right now. They also have really cute packaging and I am a
sucker for that. I love that I got a three pack of these masks rather than just
one. I have only used one so far (still trying to convince Charles to take up
skincare), but it left my skin smooth and hydrated. I’m not sure about it being
the “first of its kind” in skincare, but it’s really great. It’s also easy to
apply because it has protective sheets on both sides of the mask. Peel off one
side, stick it on, peel off the other. Easy. What sold me on this was the fit.
This mask fits closer to my skin and is more comfortable to wear than any other
face mask I’ve tried. Definitely falling hard for Farmacy.
L-R: Cougar Beauty, Girlactik Eyeliner, Ofra Pressed Powder |
Girlactik Precise
Eyeliner Marker | $20
This Precision Marker
Eyeliner’s soft and precise tip is designed to create the perfect dramatic line.
The formula is weightless, long lasting, and water resistant, smudge proof, and
lies comfortable on the eye with no pulling or tugging.
Shaaanxo talks about
Girlactik a lot, but I was sure that it was a sponsored thing, so I didn’t want
to jump in without doing a lot of research. Now that I have it, I love it. This
eyeliner might unseat my beloved Kat Von
D…it’s that good. I like the felt tip, which is firm enough to stamp on a wing,
but also flexible enough to get any thickness or shape to your eyeliner you
want. I’ll definitely be using the crap out of this.
LVX Nail Lacquer | $18
This long lasting,
chip resistant and gel-like formula is free of the 5 toxic and harsh chemicals
found in most common nail lacquer formulas. LVX is devoted to providing you
with the top-quality socially responsible, vegan-friendly products.
I’ll say it. 5 free
nail polishes just don’t work as well. I think we should all be honest about
this. This polish is good. It lasts five days without chipping. It also is
fully opaque in two coats, but is acceptable after one coat. I like the brush
as well. It’s wide and slightly rounded so you only need one or two swipes to
cover a whole nail.
Ofra Oil Control
Pressed Powder | $39.95
This Oil Control Pressed
Powder was designed to keep you makeup intact all day! Perfect for oil control.
Suitable for sensitive skin.
It’s not that I don’t
like this, because I do. I do like it. It’s a great powder. It’s that price.
For comparison, it’s at least five dollars more expensive than pressed powders
from Makeup For Ever, Too Faced, and It Cosmetics. Is it better than any of
these powders? No. I’d say it’s on par with maybe a drugstore to midrange
product. Definitely not deserving of the price point.
This month’s Boxycharm
did have some great things going on, but I’d really like it if they adhered to
their theme a little better. Maybe if they had included some summer-friendly
items like sunscreen or cream blush or bronzer. But nope. Here’s hoping that
next month’s theme (“Modern Merbabe”) is a closer to what I’m expecting.
Did you get a beauty
box? What was your #1 hit item?
