2014 Gift Guide: Mom

 Moms do so much for us all the time. You want to do something extra nice for her over the holidays, because if your family is anything like mine, she's already doing all the cooking, baking, and peacemaking.

Here are some ideas for things you could get your mom for this Christmas. Obviously, I was thinking about my mom when I was working on this, so maybe these aren't going to work for you. But maybe they will.

Fancy Scarf

I could have found a nice J Crew scarf, but that's boring. How about this cool galaxy scarf? It's abstract enough that it will go with anything, but the two of you know what it really is and it'll make a fun conversation piece.

Laura Mercier Creme Brulee Honey Bath

If you haven't used this before, you're missing out. It's pricey, but there's nothing more relaxing and indulgent. Do it.

Home Herb Garden

My mom is a great cook, and fresh herbs are one of the best ingredients you can have. This kit has everything you need to start your own countertop garden and have a steady supply of herbs in only a few weeks. There's lots of these available, but I like the brown paper and wood of this one.

Useful Purse

I love this tote from Zara because (a) it's affordable, (b) the shape is really cute, and (c) it's reversible to become tangerine orange! The slate gray is so practical for everyday, but the orange is great when you need a fantastic pop of color. It's also giant so it will hold everything on those running from meeting to meeting days. It also comes in black/red and navy/yellow.

Slate Coasters

Ma is always barking at me to get my cup off of her pristine end tables. Slate coasters in a cute shape like a heart are edgy but sophistocated, and last much longer than cardstock or paper ones.

Cute Kitchen Stuff

Your kitchen should always be cute. This is a rule for life. You can't go wrong with anything from Anthropologie's home section. I especially like cute measuring cups. So much better than the boring plastic ones. I love these Whale-tail Measuring Cups and the Milk Bottle Measuring Cups.

Finally, this awesome gift set from The Body Shop. You get a fragrance (that smells delicious) plus three lip butters and three body butters. It comes packaged in a cute festive box, and the proceeds are used to help pay for kids to go to school. Everyone wins.
