Blogmas #6: Holiday Gingerbread Cookies

As seen in my Holiday Tag with Beth, I would choose gingerbread over candy canes any day. Gingerbread seems really only acceptable to enjoy at the holidays, and that seems just wrong. But since it's time, some friends came over to me and Beth's house and we made some holiday cookies.

Holiday Gingerbread Cookies
I didn't make this recipe up. When we went out to breakfast yesterday, they were handing out these, so I thought that we should give it a go.

Yield: Yikes, a ton. Like so many cookies. 4 trays worth.

2 3/4 cup flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup butter
1 egg
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses

1. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Or don't do that because no one ever does except Martha Stewart.
2. Cream the butter with the brown sugar, egg, and molasses until it is a smooth texture.
3. Add those dry ingredients and mix well.
4. Refrigerate dough for one hour...or 20 minutes in the freezer if you're impatient.
5. Preheat oven to 350F...I don't know what that is in Celsius.
6. Roll out your dough to 1/4 inch thick-ish, and cut out your cookies!
7. Cook 10-12 minutes.
8. Allow to cool, then decorate. This is not the time to be impatient, because they look prettier if you let them cool first. You could stick them in the freezer again...which I might have.

These are both delicious and fun! We only had a heart cookie cutter, that we got for free from Nutella, and a star, so that is the shape that the cookies are, but we had a real blast doing them. Beth also made this snowman shape. It didn't hold together well in the oven, but still tasted delicious. I also iced them using the icing recipe from this post.

Pre-oven

I opened up today's advent calendar door, and it was not a makeup item.

It's this cute little bow hairpin. I was expecting it to be really cheaply made, but it seems really sturdy. It does take some practise to slide into your hair though, because the clip section is really rigid. I like it. I have to jaw it into my hair and it sticks, but I also have hair with a lot of texture. If your hair is thinner it might not work so well.
