Meeting New People
Now that the schoolish time is upon us, a lot of people are
wondering how to make new friends. It’s that sort of thing that always happens
at the beginning of the year. You have a chance to make new friends and try new
things. Here are some of the easiest ways to meet new people.
Befriend a classmate. This is easy. Start a conversation
with the guy sitting next to you. This also comes in handy when you need help
in that class.
Join a new club. First year, I joined the swing dancing
club. It didn’t work out, but I met new people! These days, I’m just in the
biology society, which is really cool. I like it, and I’ve made many new acquaintances
there.
Meet your neighbors. Whether you just don’t know your
neighbors well or if you’re living in university housing, there are many people
that can be met. Two people who I lived
near ended up being my roommates later in life.
Escape the house. It’s tough to meet new people staying
inside. Go for a walk, head to the library, troll the town for free events, and
keep your eyes open. Don’t be afraid to initiate a conversation with someone.
They could really be your best friend, but you won’t know unless you have that
conversation.
Be accessible. Walking with your head down and earbuds in
has a time and place, but it’s much easier for someone to approach you if you aren’t shut out from the
world.
Here’s to all the new friends we’ll make!
