Emmys Fashion Recap 2012

Last weekend was the Emmy Awards. Modern Family swept through all the categories, and Breaking Bad seemed to win everything that they didn’t, which I suppose could have been predicted. I haven’t watched Breaking Bad ever, but I hear that it’s pretty good. Maybe I’ll check it out sometime. Anyway, we all know the best part of the Emmys is who is wearing what. Here’s my recap of my top five 6 (I miscounted) best dressed and my top five worst dressed ladies. Sorry, no gentlemen on the list, mostly because they have it really easy. Throw on a tux and waltz out the door. We girls have it soooo tough!

In no particular order:

BEST: Julia Louis Dreyfus
It takes a certain woman to still look fashionable past 40, and she managed it wonderfully. The deep auburn color was stunning on her skin tone, as well as the dainty chiffon straps. It looked appropriate, but not dated, and that’s exactly how it should be.

WORST: Ashley Judd
Maybe she could have pulled off the dress. That’s a big maybe, but I’m willing to consider that possibility, had it not been for that hair. I like big hair, but this is just unpleasant. She’s such a pretty lady; she could have done a little better.

BEST: Tina Fey
Tina Fey is a great actress. I like watching her, and she does a great job of playing the unfashionable nerdy girl a lot of the time. Also, for her age, and for being a parent, she has a slammin’ figure. She also knows how to dress it. She’s looking classically beautiful in this burgundy gown.

WORST: Claire Danes
Claire Danes is hot. She is a beautiful, talented woman, and she really delivers knockout performances on Homeland. She’s also pregnant. I know that pregnant award show fashion is a little limited, but this canary yellow tent did her no favours. It made her badonkadonk look HUGE, and robbed her of curves everywhere else. For someone who has so much God-given beauty, she could have done a lot more with it.

BEST: Kelly Osborne…sort of
I detest Kelly Osborne’s style the majority of the time and how she became an expert is beyond me. I think the purple hair has got to go, but she looked fabulous in this lilac gown. It flattered her, and was an excellent choice. She’s also looking fit and healthy, which looks good on everyone. But like I said, that hair is not so great.

WORST: Lena Dunham
She’s so hilariously witty on Girls, but you wouldn’t know that from her slouchy lace ensemble. Literally every other outfit I’ve ever seen her wear has been flattering, but this really does nothing for her figure.

BEST: Ginnifer Goodwin
People seem pretty split about this online. I’m in the love-it category, but I get how people can hate it. I feel like she has this really edgy, unique style going on, and this worked really well with that. She also did the trendy high-low skirt without looking really trashy, as well as this summer’s hottest color of coral. I think she did splendidly.

WORST: Kat Dennings
I wanted really hard to like this dress. It’s a lovely color on her, and it’s a flattering cut, but her cleavage is just distracting. She mentioned that she is embracing her set of girls, but seriously? That’s a lot of boob. Other than that, she looked great.

BEST: Julianne Hough
She looks like she stepped off of an old Hollywood movie set. She has the gorgeous finger-waved hair, and the fantastically elegant gown. It’s a little too perfect. Her dress is very mermaid-esque in both colour and cut, like she practically walked out of the sea, and is the perfect end to the summer season.

WORST: Zooey Deschanel
I don’t really like her much, and I feel like the adorkable skit is starting to wear a little thin. Like the other ladies on my list, Zooey appears to be a little confused about how to best flatter her figure. Her untidy blue dress looked a little wrinkly, as well as ill-fitting, and something that I likely would have worn to junior prom.

BEST: Melissa Rauch
Bernadette from the Big Bang Theory is always so frumpy and short that I hardly recognized her on the red carpet. This shade of green is very eye-catching, and the floaty material is great for that not-quite-fall time. Her hair and makeup was fantastic too. She just looked stunning.

But hey, there’s always next year.
