Reading

I have problems with reading. Not in the actual reading process; I'm a great reader. I can read pretty quickly, and I absorb really well. All through my childhood, up until I graduated from high school, I was a voracious devourer of books.

Then I went to university, and reading became a chore. The first year I was at school, the number of books I read per year has dropped from about 30 to one. This year I read The Hunger Games Trilogy, and Taft 2012, but still, I'm unimpressed with this. I miss reading. I was the stereotypical bookworm as a child, and I'd like to get at least some of the intellectual depth that comes with being well-read back.

I was on the internets, and I noticed that Mark Zuckerburg gives himself a challenge every year. That sounds really great. So...Starting today, June 7th, 2012, I'm going to start reading, and by June 7th, 2013, I am aiming to have read 52 books. In short, one per week. I'm going to do my best with this, but I thought I'd put in a few stipulations.

1. It has to be a book that I want to read...textbooks don't count.
2. Picture books (for small children) don't count either, or else I'll probably cheat.
3. I want to be a little environmentally friendly, so most of the books I read will probably be downloaded onto my Kindle, and not in paper form. The books that are not in eBook format will be from the library or borrowed. Save the planet!

Today, I fired up the computer and got a fancy eBook of John Green's novel Looking for Alaska. I'm a nerdfighter (this shouldn't surprise you), and watch John on YouTube with some frequency, and I've heard great things about his books, but haven't read any of them! So I figured I'd start with his first one.

I'll let you all know how it's going :)
