End of Winter To-Dos

We’re down to a limited number of weeks until it’s finally, officially spring after a long and cold winter. There are still a few things that need to happen before I say goodbye to winter, and I thought that would be good to kind of run through those as we say adios to the dull gray days.

Make a landscaping plan while the ground is still hard

The previous owners of our home had a beautifully landscaped yard that was, unfortunately, the most high maintenance thing you could ever put in. We need to think about the layout of the yard and how to male something that we’ll love and maintain out of it. That way we’ll be ready to hit the garden shops once things thaw a little.

Declutter the garage

Charles bought a project car, and it needs a place to live where he can work on it in a meaningful way. That means that one stall of our frankly-bigger-than-we-need garage is still mostly storage, but needs to be converted into car space. It’ll be nice to do this before spring enters full swing.

Plan our basement remodel

I love our house, and we’ve been fortunate that it doesn’t need much help beyond a few cosmetics touch-ups. We have some definite old house problems, but it’s been fine for the most part. One thing I want to do is put a real non-concrete floor into our basement and start outfitting it into real, livable space. The idea is for Charles to have a place to be with some separation for nights he’s staying up late (due to being on night shift) or having friends over. It also needs some paint on the walls, but we thankfully do not need to hang the drywall.

Start working on our vacation plans.

I am so hopeful that this summer will be a fun set of adventures both in the united states and abroad, coronavirus notwithstanding. I’d like to sit down and put some real plans on the books as to what those trips look like. As of now, I know we’re spending about a week in Halifax, Nova Scotia, exploring my old stomping ground. I haven’t been back since I moved to the US six years ago. It’s been way too long, and I can’t wait to share some of my favorite places with Charles.

What’s on your list of to-dos over the next few weeks?
