Blogmas #20: Travel Makeup Bag: Holiday Edition

When you're travelling for whatever reason, it can be tough to know what to take. Add to that the difficulty of the holiday season and it gets even tougher. Two days ago, I arrived at my parents' house without much of a plan besides that I'm here for two weeks. Before I go home, I have to get through Christmas, New Years, catching up with friends, movie nights, and parties. It can be a lot, but I didn't want to pack too heavy either. These are the things that I packed to provide simple everyday looks as well as amping up the glam for the holidays.

For skin care products, I brought Neutrogena Ulta Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen, which is SPF 55, to wear underneath everything. It's my favourite by far, and I always find some way to pick up some minis somewhere. Next is Benefit's Total Moisture Face Cream and the It's Potent Eye Cream for moisturising. I packed those for size's sake, but they are keeping my skin hydrated right now, which is excellent.

On my skin goes my Benefit Porefessional Primer. I didn't want to bring my stick primer, and this works super well all day and night. I also packed my Revlon Photoready Foundation, because pictures are going to happen. Cover FX Loose Mattifying Powder holds it down, and gives me a good base for other face products. On my cheeks, I use the Coralista Blush, and contour with Hoola Bronzer. I have been finishing off with a healthy dose of Sunbeam, which is fast becoming my favourite highlighter.

For my eyes, I brought my Stay Don't Stray Primer, and then two palettes. The first is my Revlon Photoready Eye Kit in Metropolitan. It makes for an excellent grey smoky eye that works for any party. I also packed my Annabelle quad, where you buy the shadows separately. The lavender and gold shades work well during the day and come off easily when it's time to transition to night. I also packed two different eyeliners, both by Maybelline, who do eye stuff really well. I brought my Eyestudio Gel Liner in Brown for a softer, more subtle look, and then my Masterprecise Liquid Liner in Black for night. Both are great, and I highly recommend. I actually like the Masterprecise Liner better than the Stila Liquid Liner, which everyone raves about. Finally, I'm using my Colossal Volum' Express Mascara, also by Maybelline. It's pretty fabulous. It doesn't clump, holds a curl really well and stays put. I use the waterproof version, as always.

Finally, on my lips, I didn't want to go too extreme, so I packed something simple that works for any occasion. I'm using the Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in Honey, and then following it up with Benefit's Dandelion gloss. It's looks really natural, and photographs well. Also, if I go heavy in the eyes, I don't want to go heavy in the lip.

Whew. That's everything I intend to wear between now and January 2nd. I brought more than I would for just any occasion because I wanted some options heading into the holidays.

I did also haul home my entire advent calendar. In today's advent calendar, there was a tube of Ooh La Lift.

This is a brightening cream for the under eye are, and God knows I need that. I'm still recovering from the post-exam bags under my eyes. Someone asked if I got into a fight the other day. I wish I was kidding. I put some of this on and didn't feel like it was super brightening. I'm not sure what I was supposed to expect.

I am at my parent’s place, and the lighting in their gozillion year old house (it’s only like 200, but still) is really poor. I’ll try to find a better spot to take my photos tomorrow.

What are you must haves for travelling?
